Southampton & District Samaritans

Southampton Branch of the Samaritans offers 24 hours a day confidential listening service via the telephone, letter, email and in person (between 10am and 10pm). to people who are going through a crisis and who are in danger of taking their lives.

There is also the opportunity to volunteer, where the Samaritans offer an excellent and comprehensive 6 week training programme, with full support at all times within their friendly and social group of volunteers.

No experience is needed; just the ability to listen without judgement.  Samaritans need a commitment to a weekly 3 hour session, (some weekends), 8 night duties a year and a 2 year stay.  Initially volunteers are asked to attend an information event which explains what it is all about.  All volunteers are checked against DBS.
