Action on Pre-Eclampsia is a national charity which helps and supports women with pre-eclampsia (formerly called toxaemia). This is an illness which only occurs in pregnancy and can affect both the mother and the unborn baby. It is the most common serious complication of pregnancy, but is still too poorly understood to be preventable. Action on Pre-Eclampsia believes that all pregnant women should be informed about the condition, because early recognition of the signs and symptoms will help reduce the risk for mothers and babies.
