FolkActive Dances Online

Online folk dances for over 50s with live music.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, FolkActive ran monthly afternoon folk dances for over 50s at Freemantle Community Centre. With an experienced caller choosing easily accessible dances, our sessions were an opportunity for older people to meet and socialise whilst keeping active and learning new skills. An essential component was the live music, provided by professional folk musicians.

In March the dances had to stop, but in June we moved them onto Zoom. All the vital elements are retained: the dance caller, the live music, the accessibility and the socialising. We’ve adapted dances for couples and individuals at home, and we’ve become creative about improvising with props instead of partners where necessary. There’s a caller and on-screen lead for the dance moves, and folk musicians providing live music and song.

Second and fourth Wednesdays of the month from 2pm to 3.30pm

Dances are free to attend, although if you would like to make a donation it would be appreciated.

Find out more on our web site and register to receive the Zoom link and sign up for a monthly reminder.
