Sure Start has qualified play workers that work in the sessions such as Family point and Come and Play to support families by providing a good quality play environment. Young children learn and develop the most in these early years and from their families. Sure Start supports and works alongside families by providing opportunities and choices for children to initiate their own play in a secure and safe environment.
Sure Start works closely with the Development Team which is responsible for ensuring there is sufficient good quality childcare available for families to take their child’s funded entitlement to a nursery education place. We aim to ensure families are aware of what this entitlement is, and provide information for them to make a choice between childminders, nurseries and pre-schools and what is best for their child.
Health Visitors play a key role and often are one of the first services that new parents have contact with. In Central Locality they offer support in conjunction with Sure Start by holding clinics at Family Point and Come and Play sessions and through a Family Support Worker supporting families in their own homes. In addition they liaise on a regular basis with the Sure Start Team to influence? additional support that is needed for families.
Parents and carers are the most important people in a child’s life and will be the most knowledgeable about what the child needs. Sure Start is committed to involving parents at every stage in planning and evaluating services to ensure they are offering the best support for families. We value parents’ contributions and involve parents in a variety of ways, including volunteering opportunities, as well as with the planning and evaluation process. If you want your voice to be heard, have some good ideas, or want to get involved, please contact us.
