Nursery Education Funding is available for nursery and pre-school places for all children from the term after their third birthday.  In addition, there is some funding available for places for two year olds who meet the relevant criteria.

If you do not meet the 2 year old funding eligibility criteria, and would like your child to attend a pre-school or other provider before they are 3, you will need to pay until your child is eligible for the universal funding.

This Directory lists childcare providers approved by Ofsted and Southampton City Council. The free early education can be taken in a variety of settings in Southampton: school nursery class; nurseries / pre-schools on school sites; independent schools; nurseries or pre-schools in children’s centres; day nurseries; pre-schools and childminders (childminders cannot be funded for a child to whom they are related).
