Identifying Needs: Early Intervention and Making a Referral (Level 3)

This free multi-agency course will help refresh your Level 2 knowledge and skills, and help you carry out your crucial role ensuring agencies work together to protect children from harm. It examines early interventions and referral processes, and is aimed at practitioners who have high involvement in the child protection process.

Who should attend?

Attendees should have relevant working experience of child protection process or have attended Safeguarding Children and Young People Level 2 prior to applying for this course. This course is aimed at professionals from all agencies i.e. health, education, police and social care, who contribute to child protection enquiries or work with complex issues within families i.e. have a role to play in regards to undertaking Section 47 enquiries.

It is also mandatory training for those in social care who will be responsible for the coordination of the assessment of children in need. It may be of interest to early years and childcare providers.

Please bring your own refreshments and lunch as these will not be supplied.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course participants will have been offered the opportunity to:

  • Review knowledge on current legislation and guidance
  • Consider the implication in practice deriving from the learning from SCRs
  • Identify child centred needs, know how to make a referral
  • Consider needs and obstacles to professional curiosity
  • Use and interpret chronologies
  • Consider information sharing

Course dates for the Full Course

Please note that when you first apply you will be put under consideration for a place.

All places are allocated by the Southampton Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) based on the percentage contribution made by the member agencies of the SSCP. Successful applicants will be advised about the venue on their booking confirmation letter, which is sent out about 2 weeks before the course start date.
