Public Health Nursing Service (School Nursing)

The Public Health Nursing Service supports children and young people aged 5-19 years who live or go to school/college in Southampton. We work directly with children, young people and their families to deliver the Healthy Child Programme.

We work closely with other NHS / Health professionals to deliver high quality care. We also work with other partner agencies to get the right support needed.
You and your child may see:

  • Public Health Nurses – registered, qualified nurses who have been specially trained in public health. There is a named public health nurse for every school in Southampton
  • School Health Nurses - registered and qualified nurses often with additional skills for the role
  • Public Health Nursing Support Workers – a healthcare professional who is trained to provide the service under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Wellbeing Associate Practitioners – experts in young persons’ issues working in secondary schools and college’s.
