Southampton Short Breaks Card – MAX Card and MAX Card Plus

MAX and MAX Plus Card image

What is the MAX Card?

The MAX Card is issued to children and young people who register with The Buzz Network.

It gives discounts or benefits to the holder and one other person at a range of venues and organisations within Southampton and further afield.

The card can only be used by the registered child and their parent/carer so please do not lend to anyone else.

We are aware that many MAX and MAX Plus Card holders will have expired cards now.  If you wish for your child's expired card to be replaced please email with the following details:

  • Child’s name
  • Date of birth
  • Current address
  • Evidence of DLA/PIP if in receipt of it

Who can access the card?

The MAX Card is available to any child or young person registered on The Buzz Network.  If you are not a member of the Buzz Network and would like further information or to join then please click here.

Those within the medium level of support (in receipt of DLA or PIP and evidenced to the Short Breaks Officer) will receive a MAX Card Plus.  This will give additional benefits such as access to specialist playschemes.

MAX Cards are issued based on The Buzz Network eligibility criteria.  These will be reviewed every 2 years, however it is your responsibility to let us know of any changes to circumstances within this time.

You are eligible to join The Buzz Network if:

  • Your child/young person is under 19
  • Lives at a Southampton address
  • Has SEND

You will be eligible for a MAX Card Plus if you meet the above 3 criteria AND you are in receipt of DLA or PIP.

How to apply for a Card?

You need to register with The Buzz Network before you are able to receive a MAX Card.  You will receive a MAX Card in the post once you have registered with The Buzz Network.  If your child is in receipt of DLA or PIP and you have provided a copy of this evidence to The Buzz Network then you will receive a MAX Card Plus in the post once you have signed up.

We are unable to issue a MAX Card Plus until we have received evidence of your eligibility.  We are unable to return documents so please DO NOT send original documents.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Do we need the MAX Card to access Short Breaks?

Yes.  You must register with The Buzz Network and provide evidence of DLA/PIP to receive the MAX Card Plus to be able to access our funded activities.  You will need to show your MAX Card Plus when booking/attending these activities.

Will we still have to pay for activities?

Yes.  You will be expected to pay the standard cost for the activity.  Discounts may be offered by venues.  We recommend that you contact the venue for further information before attending.  The MAX Card scheme helps providers apply for funding to cover additional costs.

I’ve lost/misplaced my card, what do I do?

Please contact the Short Break team who will issue you a replacement card.  Please do not reapply for a new card.

Where can I use the card?

Please click here to find a list of all providers who are part of the MAX Card scheme.

Can I still access Buzz activities if my child is in the substantial/complex category?

If you are a member of the Buzz Network but are within the substantial or complex category then you may still be able to access specialist playschemes if this forms part of your child’s assessed care package.  If you would like further clarification on your child’s care package then please contact your Social Worker.

The venue didn’t recognise my Card

If you find that a venue, which is part of the scheme, doesn’t recognise the card please let us know so that we can resolve it.  Sometimes there can be confusion if there are new staff or a change in management.
