This free multi-agency course will help to update your Level 2 knowledge and skills, and will help you to carry out your crucial role ensuring agencies work together to protect children from harm. It will examine the child protection procedures and best practice in Southampton and is aimed at practitioners who have high involvement in the child protection process.

Who should attend?
Attendees should have relevant working experience of child protection process or have attended Safeguarding Children and Young People Level 2 prior to applying for this course. This course is aimed at professionals from all agencies i.e. health, education, police and social care, who contribute to child protection enquiries or work with complex issues within families i.e. have a role to play in regards to undertaking Section 47 enquiries.
It is also mandatory training for those in social care who will be responsible for the coordination of the assessment of children in need. It may be of interest to early years and childcare providers.
Please bring your own refreshments and lunch as these will not be supplied.
By the end of the course participants will have been offered the opportunity to:
• review knowledge on current legislation and guidance
• consider the implication in practice deriving from the learning from SCRs/SPRs
• define abuse and look at Thresholds for s17 and s47 (information sharing)
• understand professionals roles and responsibilities in the child protection process, CP conferences and core groups.
Applicants for this free course will initially be put under consideration for a place as the Southampton Safeguarding Children Partnership (SSCP) allocate places based on the percentage funding contribution made by its member agencies. Those who are offered a place will be informed appproximately 2 weeks before the course start date, and their confirmation letter will include the venue information.
